  Gauge Approximate Tension
g-1 Gut/Nylon 2.50mm (.098") (50PM) 23kg (52.9lb)
d-2 Gut/Nylon 3.34mm (.131") (67PM) 22kg (48.5.lb)
A-3 Gut/Copper 2.60mm (.102") (52PM) 20kg (44lb)
E-4 Gut/Copper 3.10mm (.122") (62PM) 18kg (39.6lb)

The Red Diamond g-1 and d-2 strings are made of the finest beef serosa (gut), twisted in our famous Lyon gut style, then wrapped with nylon to protect the string from adverse environmental conditions. The nylon is polished smooth for slick playing action and long life. The A-3 and E-4 strings have high twist gut cores for flexibility and long sustain, seasoned carefully and then wound with copper wire for a rich, low register. Red Diamond string gauges are based on the popular Medium range from our Academie line of bass strings.

Red Diamond strings are designed to satisfy the needs of active, professional musicians who need that real gut sound for jazz, bluegrass, blues, rockabilly, and other musical forms that require a strong bottom end to the sound and the stylistic stage presence of an upright bass. Red Diamond strings are the solution for worry-free durability whatever the conditions of the performance situation.

We are confident that you will find these strings affordable, reliable, and durable.

Red Diamond wound strings are warrantied for a period of six months from the date of shipping.

#

Hand-made in the USA by Gamut Music, Inc., a leader in the revival of early music strings and instruments. Gut strings are not intended to be used with fine tuners or string adjusters, and those devices should be removed before installing the gut string on the instrument.

All Gamut Academie strings (pure gut and gut/metal-wound) are made with beef serosa unless they specifically say "Sheep Gut." All pure gut Tricolore violin and viola strings are made with sheep gut; gut/metal-wound Tricolore and all Red Diamond strings are made with beef serosa.

Gamut gut string gauges are approximate (≈) diameter. Meaning, that while a ≈0.60mm string is polished in the workshop to a diameter of 0.60mm, changes in ambient humidity, temperature, shipping, and storage conditions can cause to string to expand or contract slightly.

Gimped gut strings and custom gauged equal tension strings are gauged with the equivalent-gauge (=) system. This means that the gauge listed, such as =1.50mm, indicates that the string is approximately equal in weight to a plain gut string of that diameter. Of course, because the wire is much heavier than gut, the string will be much thinner than a plain gut string.

RED DIAMOND FULL SETT GUT STRINGS

The strings are in their own package safe one by one. They look very cool, they sound immediately full and deep and dark as I like. At the touch they feel little different from the strings I played for 20 years but after a couple of hours my fingers recognized them well. the sound is full and projected. For now I did my testing only in rooms I know with no gigs or rehearsals but I'm completely satisfied! may be the only thing is that they are a little short, or they seems, when you mount them on the bass.

    Amazing Tonal Properties

The Red Diamond Set is quite a phenomenal set of gut strings. I find them to be not only of great quality in construction, but they produce very fine tonal properties with Pizzacato and Arco. In regards to volume, I find them to project very well. They have a very warm tone and nice resonating qualities, I find the sustain to be remarkable on my bass. They are some of the finest strings I've ever played.

    Red Diamond Gut Strings

The Red Diamond set is my first set of guts I've owned and I'm very pleased with the results. I find them to project very well using pizzacato and arco technique. Being beef serosa, they are a stiffer string than mutton serosa, closer to a steel string in that regard but still retaining that gut tension and beautiful tone. The construction of the string is amazing and they are stabilizing rather quickly. I highly recommend this string if you are switching over from steel or are interested in trying guts at an affordable price. Gamut is absolutely top quality and I look forward to continue using their strings.

    Gamut Red Diamond

It is so nice to have a good quality set of gut strings and being red as well. The D and G are lovely. Easy to play and sound nice and strong. The E and A are to light and don't match the set to well as far as tension. On my 1935 King, the E and A have strong overtones along with the principle. I think a heavier gauge would be a better match for the wrapped D and G. The D and G could maybe be a gauge lighter and the E and A heavier. Nonetheless, these are overall great strings, especially for the price!

    Authentic sound

I had this set since few weeks now and I can said that is beautiful set, for 40’s/50’s sound lover, D and G are the best I had tried pizz, slap of arco, original PC or slam stewart sound. Big focused sound with good modulation even in high register, never change something to these string there are perfect. The E and A are the same big sound, sustain, modulation, but these strings need one tension more to be perfect and have the right balance with the D and G. Also a good thing is the cooper winding, much better and open that silver, this is the key, but I really thing that this set will be perfect with higher tension E and a with same construction and material. Maybe I will order E and E light+ or medium in your académie line. Thank for all your work.

    Red diamond strings

These strings are just as advertised, they produce the deep rhythmic sounds of jazz before bassists regularly used amps and steel strings. The tone is warm and rich with short sustain and strong attack. I’ve used them on my New Standard bass for about five years, mostly playing acoustic traditional jazz but also country and Western swing and some roots rock. I would say I’ve played close to A thousand gigs with these strings and have found them to be consistent, reliable and generally excellent. I do sometimes wish the E string and perhaps the A we’re just a bit heavier but you can certainly get a great growling sound out of those low strings. They also bow very well compared to comparable strings.

    Smooth, but responsive.

Feel smooth but responsive... Can play longer without fatigue, but they sound louder than most other gut strings I've used.

    Red Diamond Bass Strings

Thank you! The G sounds and feels perfect, the D works well, the A and E are a bit soft for my taste, with enormous amplitude, and missing a little bit of low end.

    Great for pizz

Very much enjoying the pizz playing on the D and G. Very strong and loud with great tone. Best slap tone yet on my bass. I was not expecting that with a wound gut! Nice! They are very high tension which will probably not be received well with most slappers, but they work fine for me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the E and A to work with my bass. Just not enough volume. Again that’s my bass. I’ve read other reviews of them working fine for others. All in all very happy with them!
