Some years ago I realized that there was a need for an instrument that was specifically designed to make the most of modern strings and instrument assembly technology. The result of my design effort is this instrument available as the Fantasia model having eight courses and intended to be used for later Renaissance music; specifically the Dowland repertoire and the Recercar model having six courses intended for the early Italian music.
The string length of both models is 61cm which is the perfect length to make modern, synthetic strings perform at their best at the pitch of a-440. The length allow for a larger body which gives good support for a larger, fundamental air resonance giving these instruments a big, projective tone.
The body is made of eleven ribs with a half-round cross-section to support the lower resonances
The features of the Fantasia and Recercar lutes are fixed and no custom features are available for this model.
