This is a double length, (48"), sheep gut string available with a natural or varnish finish. Natural strings are hand-rubbed with a light oil. Varnished strings have three coats of finish before being hand polished with the oil. There is an additional charge for varnished strings. The string comes with plain, unknotted ends. Knots may be tied for you at an additional charge per string.

I've been using these strings for a little over two years now, since I switched away from steel e' strings. They have a great tone and have great pitch stability.
Excellent sound and bow response.
I am playing an early romantic set-up with fairly heavy strings. I had been using a m+ e but they kept breaking. Dan suggested a light+ at A440. I was sceptical, but the string is working quite well. Good colour and playability across the four strings, and same thing as I go up the fingerboard. As the string breaks in I am getting a nicer and nicer ring out of it.
Was having enormous trouble with my <mass market brand> gut e not sounding. Switched to this string, and it's like I'm playing a different instrument. Will never go back to any other string.
I like the heavy and heavy+ gauges, which I think are actually louder and fuller sounding than steel E's! You probably will need the varnished option if you practise a lot, or else the string will last only 1 week of intense playing. Overall it's definitely the best sounding E string money can buy, and I use it on my modern setup violin together with the sheep gut A.
