Description

With J. S. Bach: French Lute Suites, Paul Beier has presented a recorded document of how beautiful these pieces can sound, when well played on the lute. These, so-called, “French Suites” pieces, BVW 812 – 817, were composed between the years of 1722 and 1725, a period when Bach was mostly employed as the Cantor at St. Thomas in Leipzig. Four of the six suites are featured on this recording, numbers twelve through fifteen, presenting twenty-four individual pieces ranging in form from Prelude to Anglaise.

The recording package contains a booklet with the historical information about the pieces and a compelling explanation of how he adapted the parts to the lute from original keyboard music. This unique recording of a beautiful repertoire played on a 13-course lute made by Stephen Gotlieb with all-gut strings from the Gamut workshop.
