We offer Cello da Spalla strings individually, or in bundled sets featuring the most popular kind of strings for ease of ordering. Gauges are available in Light, Medium, or Heavy.

The five-string Violoncello da Spalla (Cello da Spalla) is a small cello played on the shoulder and chest, similar to a violin, and evolved from the Viola da Gamba and Violin family.

For a string maker, strings for the cello da spalla are among the most challenging. The short string length and low pitches are counter intuitive to conventional design and we have to break out every trick in the string maker catalog.

For the e-1 string, we use our poplar Lyon type of twist, which offers the greatest combination of power and flexibility. This single-twist string offers great stability for the bow and a warm and rich tone with good intonation.

The a-2 string is crafted with our popular Pistoy twist, a double-twist string that offers exceptional flexibility. This is a crucial feature for a thick string with a short length, ensuring great intonation even in higher playing positions.

The D-3 string is a unique creation, featuring a gut core wound with sterling silver wire. We use a single wire to enhance the construction's flexibility, resulting in a comfortable feel under the fingers. The diameter decrease from the plain gut a-2 is approximately 22%, further enhancing the playing experience. The wire is left round, not polished.

The G-4 string is a specially prepared gut core wound with a 99.9, dead-soft silver wire. This very pliable metal is robust and warm in tone and flexible for superior intonation. The wire is left round, not polished.
