Combining Tricolore + Academie Strings

Combining Tricolore + Academie Strings

Jan 29th 2025

Occasionally, customers inquire about combining Academie gut strings (designed for a=415) with Tricolore Violin or Viola strings (designed for a=440) for modern performance practice. Academie strings are perfectly suitable for modern practice, but the result will be a little bit more tension at a=440.

For example, to use an Academie Violin e-1 string with a Tricolore Violin string set of Medium gauge, lower the Academie e-1 string gauge one step; from Medium gauge to Light+ gauge.

You can use our String Calculators to find the correct strings for your instrument. We also offer a list of specific string tensions for instruments

If you need assistance in selecting the correct gauge for your instrument, please contact us: support@gamutmusic.com.
