Gamut strings are hand-crafted using selected gauges based on Dan Larson's calculations for each instrument. Most strings are offered in Light, Light+, Medium, Medium+, Heavy, and Heavy+ gauges (although some strings are only offered in Light, Medium, and Heavy).

If your preference for a particular string runs lighter or heavier, our Custom Gauged Strings section of the store offers Gamut string types in a wide range of gauges.

For example, our Academie Violin a-2 Gut Double-Length string is a (48", 120cm) treble gut string available in standard gauges of .72mm, .74mm, .76mm, .78mm, .80mm, and .82mm; while our standard length (48", 120cm) Custom Gauged Treble Gut Strings section offers gauges from .38mm to .98mm.

Our string sets are based off the combined price of individual strings, so there is no penalty for purchasing strings à la carte.
