This is a single-length (48", 120cm) treble gut string made with beef serosa available with either a natural or varnish finish. This gut string is available only in the natural color which varies from white to a pale straw hue.

Plain gut strings are available with a natural or varnish finish. Natural strings are hand-rubbed with a light oil. Varnished strings have three coats of finish before being hand polished with the oil. There is an additional charge for varnished strings. The string comes with plain, unknotted ends. Knots may be tied for you, and leather washers added for an additional charge.

Instructions on how to tie a string knot are on the back of each package.

Beef serosa has a higher tensile strength than does sheep gut, so this string is useful for instruments that require extra durability. If your instrument has a longer string length which puts it beyond the comfortable range for sheep gut strings, the beef gut would be a good choice for string selection as it will stand the strain a little better. Treble gut is processed to be a little harder than other kinds of gut, and it also has a lower twist of about 15 degrees to increase the strength and is an ideal string for the piccolo cello e-1.

Academie strings are manufactured in the USA by Gamut Music, Inc., a leader in the revival of early music strings and instruments. Gut strings are not intended to be used with fine tuners or string adjusters and those devices should be removed before installing the gut string on the instrument.

    Violincello Piccolo gut E string

My string was shipped quickly. I immediately installed it on my Violincello Piccolo by Johann Gottlieb Hoyer (1774-1807) and the sound is wonderful and the string stays on pitch. I will most likely be purchasing the gut G & A strings in the future. Dan personally emailed me and I viewed his YouTube on Gamut Strings and Instruments. This is a very caring and professional company.

    Good Tone

I ordered a heavy tension as my cello is a smaller 5-str (adjusting the gauge to accommodate the shorter vibrating length) but as this higher pitch will present a fairly taught string to begin with, next time I will try the light tension.
