Bass Gut/Metal-Wound String Rewind
The problem with bass gut/metal-wound strings is that they will eventually develop a buzzing sound when the core shrinks and the wire becomes loose. When this happens you can send the old string back to Gamut Music and we will stretch the core again and put new wire on it. This process can be done to a string at least three times before the core degrades and loses tone.
Gamut Music offers bass rewinding for:
-
Academie contrabass nylon rewinding for the Lyon g-1 and d-2 strings
-
Copper or silverplate wire rewinding for all gut/metal-wound Academie bass strings.
-
Red Diamond copper wire rewinding for the A-3 and E-4 strings.
-
This service is available only for Gamut Academie and Red Diamond strings; we do not recondition other brands of strings.
If you wish to have a Gamut bass string rewound, please check out in the store after choosing the shipping option you prefer and send your old string to:
Gamut Music, Inc.
1600 London Road
Duluth, MN 55812
Please be sure to indicate what type of string is being sent in for reconditioning (e.g. Contrabass E-4 Gut/Copper), and when you will be sending it to the workshop. It takes around three or four days to process the string once we receive it in the workshop.
