This steel string is an old-style type of low-carbon with a tin coating. This type of steel was widely used in the early 20th century for musical instruments and was sometimes referred to as "mandolin wire" because it has a softer, rounder tone than higher-carbon steel. The end of the string is wound with thread and wire so that it holds securely on the peg.
The string comes with a Loop End.

Technical Considerations
All Gamut string set prices are based off of the individual string prices; there is no penalty for ordering strings à la carte.
Historical Considerations
The Tricolore brand, used by many famous violin soloists, was one of the most well-known violin strings made in the 20th century. The machines we use at Gamut Music were purchased from the Perfection Company, along with the formulations used to make Tricolore strings. These strings are accurate replications of the ones that filled American concert halls with sound in the 20th century.
